The Twitter handles of many prominent US politicians and businessmen have been hacked. The Twitter handles of former US President Barack Obama, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, US presidential candidate Joe Biden have been hacked. Not only that, the handle of Twitter’s Twitter support was also hacked. There is talk that the hackers may have made the same tweets from everyone’s accounts, but it may have been hacked for a cryptocurrency scam.
The hackers tweeted a link to the hacked Twitter handle. It mentioned the transaction of bitcoin. The tweet mentioned “All bitcoin sent to my address below will be sent back doubled”. On Apple’s Twitter handle, “We are giving back to our community. We support bitcoin and we believe you should too! All bitcoin sent to my address below will be sent back doubled! Only going on for the next 30 minutes.”
A similar tweet was made from the Twitter handle of Tesla chief Elon Musk. The Twitter handle of Amazon chief Jeff Bezos was also hacked.
Similar tweets were made from the handles of several companies. Companies like Apple and Uber were also targeted by hackers. Attempts were made to scam Bitcoin from the handles of these companies. With the Twitter handles of so many celebrities and companies being hacked on such a large scale at the same time, people have been raising questions on Twitter about security.
“Tough day for us at Twitter” said Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter. “We all feel terrible this happened. We’re diagnosing and will share everything we can when we have a more complete understanding of exactly what happened,” Mr Dorsey tweeted. Dorsey said.
